K9 Training: Dogs for Conservation

We are pleased to invite you as rangers of our member organisations to our first K9 training in cooperation with the Generalitat de Catalunya. The four days of training will focus on the use of dogs for nature conservation, e.g. in the fight against poaching.

Arrival: To get to the Abbey of Montserrat on 25 September 2023, you could check out public transport via train and bus here, form car pools or fly e. g. to the airport of airport Barcelona-El Prat
Location: 08199 Montserrat, Barcelona, Spain
Course Fee: 100,- Euro (incl. accommodation in the Abbey of Montserrat, meals, transfer from/to airport Barcelona-El Prat & training fee)
Language: English (Course will be held in Spanish, translated to English)
Potluck dinner & Badges for exchange: It would be nice if the participants bring some typical food or drinks from their home countries for sharing at farewell lunch. Also, bringing some spare badges of their association or protected area for exchanging them would be great.

Day 1 (26/09/2023):
- 8:30- 9:00 Arrival and reception of attendees.
- 9:00- 9:30 Presentation of the Course.
- 9:30-10:30 Canine Special Group (GEK9): Structure and Operation GEK9 (Lluís Pallarès)
- 10:30-11:00 BREAK AND COFFEE
- 11:00-12:30 Canine Special Group: Structure and Operation GEK9 (Lluís Pallarès)
- 12:30-13:30 Special Anti-Poaching Group (GEVA): Structure and operation of GEVA (Dídac Flores)
- 13:30-14:30 Match between GEVA and GEK9 (Dídac Flores and Lluís Pallarès)
Day 2 (27/09/2023)
- 9:00-10:30 Investigation and detection of poisons and corpses, with detection dogs (Pepe Capella)
- 10:30- 11:00 BREAK AND COFFEE
- 11:00-12:00 Investigation and detection of poisons and corpses, with detection dogs (Pepe Capella)
- 12:00-14:30 Veterinary assistance and first aid for working dogs (Aina Sanz)
Day 3 (28/09/2023)
- 9:00-14:30 Field practices
Day 4 (29/09/2023)
- 9:00-14:00 Guided visit to the Montserrat Natural Park
- 14:00 Closing lunch and closure of the course
Leisure Program:
- Night out at the top of St. Jeroni, with the full moon
- Visit to a D.O. Pla de Bages winery
