October: What a busy month for the international ranger community! We started with our training of around 20 participants from a dozen countries in the use of the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) in North Macedonia and continued straight away with the 10th World Ranger Congress in France.
And while representatives of the organisers, IRF and the Gardes Nature de France, travelled on to COP12 and COP16 in Austria and Colombia to make the rangers’ voice heard in global nature conservation policy decisions, we restructured a little to be able to support the rangers in our region even better – next at the European Ranger Congress in October 2025 in Romania. Plus: We have been inspired by a Serbian citizen science project. A fascinating way to work for the expansion of protected areas and at the same time win the hearts of local residents by involving them!
