It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of the first President and one of the founders of the International Ranger Federation, to whom rangers worldwide and we as European Ranger Federation owe so much.
For many in the international ranger community he has become a legend since he raised the flag of the IRF at the first World Ranger Congress in Zakopane in 1995. He helped give rangers and their conservation work a face around the world. Not only through the World Ranger Congresses he led in Costa Rica, South Africa, Australia, Scotland, Bolivia, Tanzania, the USA and Nepal.
Even in retirement, he did not cease to emphasise the important role of the ranger profession and its protagonists for the entire world community and to raise public awareness.
Now, after a life dedicated to the protection of the environment, flora and fauna from a young age, Gordon Miller has passed away after a long illness. We are left with the memory of a good friend to many of the world’s rangers, immeasurable sadness and our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
We will hold his unlimited love of life, friendship and openness in deeply grateful memory. May he rest in peace.
