In our second ranger video, we send you to the desert: Makhtesh Ramon Nature Reserve in the Negev desert is the workplace of Daniel Shermer. The ranger from our member, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, answered our call for ranger videos by giving an insight into the exciting landscape of this geological attraction in a mosaic of protected areas.

Daniel too works in the multifaceted field of tension between the protection of this unique natural landscape and its inhabitants and the stream of human visitors. Hikers, cyclists and educational travellers: the ranger is challenged at every turn to avoid the negative impact of the visitor flow on the sensitive natural environment. To this end, she works closely with the tourists. This ensures that they discover the nature reserve in a way that is both memorable for them and compatible with the flora and fauna.

Together with the Thin Green Line Foundation UK and the Countryside Management Association we called on the rangers of Europe to show exactly these aspects of rangering. 📢
