When rangers stand together, it’s not just about material help. Sharing knowledge and mental support are at least as important in an increasingly demanding profession. That’s why we’re delighted to introduce the help of Kate and Charlie in our World Ranger Day countdown today, two UK Rangers who have given up their jobs and use their savings to offer this very knowledge sharing and voluntary work to colleagues around the world.

Best of all, we let the two of them tell you about their lived ranger help:

“My partner Charlie and I have volunteered with rangers globally for 2 whole years. We have given up our jobs and used our savings to travel whilst exchanging knowledge and skills with rangers from all walks of life in all sorts of environments. In return they have graced us with their time, stories and in some cases their own homes! Although not a grand gesture to one particular association or group, we know our travels have inspired other rangers to start their own journeys and to reach out to the international community for support and idea sharing. The ERF has supported us throughout our journey and we are so grateful for their assistance.”

Our great respect for so much commitment to fellow rangers and the ranger profession! We are sure that the two of them have inspired many a ranger along the way. We can only agree with their motivation to strengthen the international ranger network, as Kate describes: “The international Ranger network is essential for building a unified identity and a voice for our profession. We are key to achieving every on-the-ground conservation goal, especially the 30×30 target, and the more we cooperate with and support our colleagues globally the more we can ensure proper training, education and safety for all rangers.”
