For today’s International Women’s Day, we take a look at those in nature conservation who still have to work a little harder in many places.
Two female rangers tell us what it means to them to work as women in conservation: Silva Lanfranchi, ranger in the Glaubenberg moorland area in Switzerland, and Margaux Pierrel, ranger in western Ireland.
Today, both are passionate about protecting nature, just as they were from the very beginning. But for the same recognition as their male colleagues, they still needed to give that little bit more.
Yet women in ranger jobs and practical nature conservation already bring that little bit more to the table. The extra diversity alone plus the one or the other special talent they bring along with competences equivalent to their male colleagues: This is indeed a great value.
We need everyone on board, all the more because rangers need to connect people from all walks of life with nature and win them over for its urgent protection.
Stand with #WomenInConservation, on #WorldWomensDay and every other day!
